Garbage Composting for Mushroom Production.
نویسنده
چکیده
Laboratory and pilot-plant composting of garbage mixtures of newspaper and vegetable waste has demonstrated that garbage can be converted to a medium that produces mushrooms (Agaricus campestris) in good yield. Sewage sludge was less satisfactory than newspaper, gumwood sawdust, or vegetable waste as a compost material for growing mushrooms. A sample of commercially produced compost was found to yield mushrooms in the same quantity as was produced in the laboratory experiments.

Mushroom Production: Cost Effective Use of Soyabean Meal (De- Oiled Cake) During Composting
Considering the constraints due to unavailability of uniform quality chicken manure in local market, three different combinations of wheat and soyabean meal (de-oiled cake) were tested for their ability to affect yield and cost of production of Button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). Compost was prepared by mixing 18, 22 and 25% soyabean meal with wheat straw by short method of composting. 80% chi...
متن کاملMicrobial diversity in a bagasse-based compost prepared for the production of Agaricus brasiliensis
Edible mushrooms are renowned for their nutritional and medicinal properties and are thus of considerable commercial importance. Mushroom production depends on the chemical composition of the basic substrates and additional supplements employed in the compost as well as on the method of composting. In order to minimise the cost of mushroom production, considerable interest has been shown in the...
متن کاملInactivation of human pathogens during phase II composting of manure-based mushroom growth substrate.
Commercial production of white button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) requires a specialized growth substrate prepared from composted agricultural by-products. Because horse and poultry manures are widely used in substrate formulations, there is a need to determine the extent to which the composting process is capable of eliminating human pathogens. In this study, partially composted substrate wa...
متن کاملTrends in Yard Waste Composting
HE TREND toward composting reached its peak in Switzerland in 1975 when approximately 10 percent-or over 200,000 tons-of garbage were composted. However, as garbage production per capita and per year increased ;gin 1960 to 430 kg in 1987, cheminination also accelerated. This led to concern about excessive pollutants in compost and their impact on human health and the environment. Switzerland's...
متن کاملA preliminary report on the stimulation of mushroom yield by post-composting supplementation
Cropping trials were carried out with mushroom compost supplemented at casing and at spawning. Protein-rich organic substrates, some of which were formaldehydeand/or heat-treated, were used as supplements. Mushroom production could be increased significantly, both by supplementation at spawning and supplementation at casing. Results were compared to production figures obtained by using the comm...
